Hey all,

I've justed moved to network Three and all has been good until today where I've needed to quickly Tether my phones net connection to my iPad - however I was met with a "Three Tethering Block" page :(

I don't tether often - but when I was with GiffGaff there was no block of any kind...

I know it's a bit sneaky, but I thought I'd ask :p I there any way to get around the block?

(PS. Not looking for jobsworth replies :p I know what I'm trying to do is a sin to mobile networking  but if I'm not able to get past the block I'm just going to be doing the same thing on a smaller screen :p)

Thanks,
Marky

I had the tether block screen for a while when they screwed over at the start of my new contract with them. Don't know how they detect it, as I tried various methods to bypass it, but it got lifted when they sorted out my contract to allow the tethering. I think you either have to have a specific addon, or buy into their 'One Plan' for the handset you have and you get the tethering unblocked :)

I may look into getting an add on... But I don't Tether often enough for it to be a big amount to pay...

Can you have add ons one month at a time? (I'm currently on their one month rolling contract... So hopefully!)

Plenty of apps in google play, or you could put a custom ROM on. I haven't got an android phone yet myself, but I've been researching this also. The Full Monty contract I'll be getting has unlimited data with no FUP, but they block tethering entirely.

As far as I know, yes you can have addon's on a rolling 30day contract, so you can terminate them when required. I 'think' their Web user addon is only a couple of quid a month, but that was sometime ago when I was looking at those.

It's a combination of a few things to identify tethering including browser ident and lookups (OS always check in with apple for updates for example) which register mis-matches with expected results. Certain OSes also demonstrate certain special things you can watch like windows checking into the MS time server. All networks have this capability, they have had it for years despite people erroneously claiming it not to be true on these forums.

Oh I didn't mention I'm using an iPhone :p

I just checked and I can get Tethering on a 30 day rolling for £5 which isn't too bad I guess - data is data though, sucks that you have to pay extra :p
