throttling my bb

iv got kids upstairs pinching all my bb and would like some way of reducing what they get.
can i buy something to help , im on 50 meg bb with virgin all plugged into an n router netgear wnr2000 and everyones plugged into the back

thanks and yes i know 50 meg is quite a lot and should be adequete

If you can figure out Windows Security this works very well, but it needs run on the pc you want to limit too! I think you can set it to not show a tray icon.

If you have got an old pc you can run as a gateway machine, then there are a few apps on the market which you can install which runs traffic shaping & throttling.

An old machine with a pair of NIC's in it could easily run as a gateway, something like ClarkConnect or pfSense/M0n0wall would easily have the features you're looking for.

Or a router such as a WRT54GL running Tomato or some other 3rd party firmware could also limit peoples bandwidth / traffic shape though some people have said the 54GL can struggle under consistent heavy load on a 50mbit line.

the easiest as already said is netlimiter allows you to set the upload and download on what ever machine it's on. had it when i was at my mums house due to using all the bandwith up download stuff vould limit it to say 10mb when we had 20 mb and this would affect anyone else using it.
