Throwing in some extra RAM

At the moment my machine has 6gb RAM.

Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Triple Channel (CMX6GX3M3A1600C9)

On a.

Asus P6X58D-E Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 Motherboard.

My motherboard has 6 RAM slots, obviously 3 of them occupied.

OCUK doesn't seem to sell this RAM anymore, but I can see another place that sells 2x2gb quite cheaply.

Am I able to to throw in another 2x2gb sticks? I've got all 3 sticks in the same colour slots at the moment. Looking at the manual, they're in slots A1,B1,C1.
Am I o.k just using up another 2 slots? Do they have to be in some sort of order? Also providing it's the exact same RAM, will it affect my overclock at all?

It will very likely affect your overclock slightly, as you're adding more strain to the memory controller in the CPU by populating two more slots.

X58 uses tripple channel memory. You're already using one DIMM in each channel - so it would be very wise to add another 3x2GB DIMMS for the best performance.

I'm not exactly sure of the outcome of having different amounts of RAM in each channel - maybe it's works fine, though I suspect your motherboard may not like it.

I'd just get 3 sticks to be on the safe side, and upgrade to 12GB of RAM.

There are a few triple channel kits available on OCUK, here's the cheapest:

Geil Black Dragon 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C7 1333MHz Triple Channel (GB36GB1333C7TC) £44.99 inc VAT

Yep your OC might suffer a bit and you may have to tweak mem controller voltages etc to get it back, also as said Triple channel memory would be your best bet.
