Anyone here done any? Going to do the one where you get to drive a mazda MPS to warm up, then a porsche Cayman and then a formula renault. Any feedback/advice?

Have to be honest, I don't massively want to do it. I am stupidly busy in work at the moment. Haven't driven a manual car for years and years, so will be stupidly rusty at first (if I can remember at all, especially at speed). Plus, I don't like Mazda and Porche cars. Hmm...

I would rather crunch the hell out of someone else's gearbox and motors than take my own car round a track auto or not.

Ungrateful I say. just think when you are mega busy at work and want a bit time to yourself but cant.

you want to drive an auto SLK more than a formula renault ???

You blatent dont deserve such a present. I'll take it off your hands for free. E-mail in trust kthnxbye ;)

Hate these experience days - they may as well get you to sit in the car and stroke the steering wheel as all the cars are limited and you can do very little in them.... certainly nowhere near their capacity.

I would use it to get as much practical tips from the trainer as possible - threshold braking etc

You don't get to drive the MPS they take you for a few laps in it. It's hilarious, it looks crap but goes like something else.

I've been to a few track days at Thruxton and they're actually pretty good. The formula renaults are rev. limited but they're still great fun. They corner like you wouldn't believe. The instructors are good and encourage you to put your foot down. I would recommend you don't go on a Monday or Friday as it can be busy on track. If someone's going with you then get them a flying lap with an instructor, it's only £20 and they usually come out of the car sheet white! :)

I did the John Palmer race day with my old work. It was at Bedfordshire Autodrome and we got to drive some of the following;

Caterham 7 SuperLight
A Forumla Palmer Audi car
Porsche 911
Renault Clio Cup
Landrover
Palmer Jaguar JP1

It was quite an epic day, really enjoyed it and I understand a little about racing cars now :)

I've driven Thruxton, couple of epic sections but challenging to learn as the lines are not always obvious like they are at other tracks. You won't be getting to serious speeds but some parts are challenging and church will require ball cupping at some point if you get up to speed or a hand takes you around. Proper corner......unless it goes wrong then you will die but its so quick you'll die at least 300 miles from the corner.....which is where you'll land!

Enjoy.

I have never been more scared out of my mind in a car than when I drove an Astra VXR around Thruxton with an instructor's hand on the wheel, with him shouting HARD ON THE THROTTLE DONT LIFT DONT LIFT DONT LIFT over and over again. Constant tyre squeel the entire lap

lol i knew you drive like a girl foxy. Never once had any of the instructors need to give me encouragement like that, my notes was that i was getting on the power too early :D

Don't be so ungrateful/unwilling, it'll be a brilliant laugh, if you're busy at work, something like this will be a relaxing break that'll take your mind off it.
