Thunderbird and junk mail

Since i switched my mail to thunderbird the junk mail filter has never really worked. I want the junk mail to get put into the junk folder just like it did in outlook.
My settings are as follows:

However, the junk mail it detects does not get put in the junk folder, it just stays in the inbox, with a little fire logo in the junk column. What gives?

Also, is the junk mail detection in this just stupid or am I doing something wrong? It keeps flagging innocent mail as junk, even if I have specifically pressed the 'not junk' button on mails sent previously from the same sender.

Well, recieved some more junk mail this morning and guess what, it remained in the inbox, this is getting real annoying :/

The log file shows its detecting the spam messages, and they get flagged, just not moved to the junk folder.

never mind i think i have it now. Had to set the junk settings under 'local folders' rather than the actual account.
