Is there anyway to either disbale the default special folders (ie: Sent, Deleted, etc) from within Thunderbird, or at least, change where they point to. The problem I am having is that my mail provider has a "Sent Items" folder where all sent messages go but the "Sent" special folder in thunderbird points to just a "Sent" folder, whcih doesn;t exists therefore I get errors everytime I send a message. If I could get it to point to "Sent Items" it'd be great!

Assuming you're using IMAP, try: Tools > Account Settings > (Account) > Copies & Folders > "When sending messages, automatically:" > check "Place a copy in" > select "Other" > hit dropdown list, browse to ""Sent Items".

When using IMAP its actually better to DISABLE the "When sending messages, automatically" feature. So just untick the box so that it does nothing.

the reason for that is because when you send mail through the mail server it should be the one doing the copy to the sent folder so that if you access the mailbox via multiple devices they are all in sync with regards to sent mail.

This is rather odd. I disabled that option as shown above. I didn;t even think that the mail server itself would store it in the Sent Items folder. Seems silly to not have thought of that myself.

However, I have just tried sending an email from thunderbird and no copy in my Sent Items folder exists whatsoever! I ahve tried logging into webmail and it doesn;t show up in their either. Why isn;t the server doing this for me? I ahve been throguh all the online mail settings too.

It's an AOL email account. I have had no problems with it in the past!

Yes, I had it set like that in the first place and when you suggested it, I checked it and it was set incorrectly so yes It did work but then Pulseammo posted and has now got me wondering why the messages are not being copied to that folder automatically by the server?

Yes, I am using IMAP
