Thunderbird (email client)

I want to have it workin in background and checking for emails every now and then and to use the "you have mail" sound when it arrives. Can someone let me know how to do this without having the full program running. As in kinda a icon near the clock.

obviously the actual program will still be running, it just won't appear anywhere except the systray.

Yup the MinimizeToTray is a good way to do this. You could also try the config.trim tweak on Thunderbird so that when you minimise Thunderbird Windows reclaims some of the memory it used.

The article describes doing this in FF, it will also work in TB.

Cool! I've just downloaded this to use, seems like a good tool. It's nicer having Thunderbird open instead of me constantly having to check it and also not to have it on the toolbar.
