I've been using Thunderbird (TB) for ages now and never changed the settings so I'm still using POP to get my emails. I only had 1 PC for the emails but now I've got Gmail on my phone and tablet do I need to change to IMAP? However, what I don't want to happen is that if I read and delete an email from my phone/tablet that it wont download onto my PC with TB when I open it.

IMAP does exactly what you want it to do. If it's read / deleted on one device then that applies to all devices, its exactly what IMAP is for.

Depends how you want it to work. I use pop on Thunderbird then just pick up new mails throughout the day on my phone.

If you need access to all mail on the go then change to impap.

That's how I've got it set up, I use TB at home with POP and then when I'm out I can read any mail on my phone.

Not sure what I've done though but when I read mail on my phone and then delete it TB doesn't download it at home. I must have changed a setting in google so I'll have to take a look at my settings.

Think I've sorted it now, I had Auto-Expunge switched off so I'll see how that works now I've turned it on.

I have used POP for years and I was so arrogant to stick with it.

I made the jump and I realised how silly I was being.

I too have a number of devices to read my EMails and, on my main PC, I have a few rules setup so that my emails get sorted into various folders so I can sort though them easily and the tablets, phones, Phablets, Tones, PCTAPHONEANDROIMAC or whatev er the hell they get called nowadays all do my emails exactly as they should.

I never delete emails though... Never have, I dont know why, I just hoard everything and emails are no different.
