Guys, can anyone help me figure this out. Last night, I turned my laptop off like normal and then today turned it on. When I opened thunderbird, it greeted me with the 'new installation' type box asking if I wanted to create a new account etc.

Therefore, all my accounts / emails etc. had gone. I browsed to ...application data/Thunderbird/... and found that the folder is still there (inbox of around 150MB so must be it) but can't figure out how to get my mails back! There are some VERY important emails from the last few days and silly me hasn't used mozbackup for a few weeks :(

edit - I've sorted it. I just restored an old profile then copied the 'corrupted' email across into the local folders bit and job done. Got my emails back. Silly boy - remember to backup.

Which server type do you use for your email? IMAP or POP3? If you use IMAP then your emails shouldn't have been lost since they aren't stored on the PC. POP3 normally downloads the emails off the server then deletes them off the server. Most email clients however should have an option to let you tell the POP3 server not to delete the emails.

I didn't tick the option for them to remain on the server. With some of the emails I get sent (huge images to do with research) the server would soon be full ;)

Not to worry though, I salvaged them and I have learnt my lesson :)
