I've been using Thunderbird as my e-mail client for some time now buts its started to really annoy me and I dont know how the fix the problems.

For whatever reason when i delete an email it doesn't get sent to the deleted folder which means the email is gone for good. I'm also pretty sure that a lot junk mail is filtered out and doesn't appear in the spam folder so I cant retrieve a genuine email that has been flagged as spam by mistake. Has anyone encountered problems like this before?

Also, could someone briefly explain the difference between POPS and IMAP4? When setting up my email account i never know which one I should and why.

Thanks

POPS pulls the emails from the server and dumps them on to your computer while leaving a copy on either end and IMAP syncs your emails to your email client so deleting any emails on your pc will also delete them from the server i.e. yahoo mail, gmail, etc etc.

I think that how it works but i could be mistaken.

There is an option you can set in relation to deleted mail in thunderbird and you can have it to remove immediately, moved it to a deleted folder etc. so you need to go and play with your options

Does that mean if I use POP on my PC and retrieve my mail I will still be able to retrieve the same mail via webmail?

I found the option and as you can see it set to move messages to the 'Deleted' folder.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be working as the Deleted folder is completely empty as is the second folder called 'Deleted' in the 'local folders' sub-menu.
