I been ask by a friend is it worth buying a Thunderbolt HD for storing and edit photos off via aperture and Lightroom or is not really the speed for that??

Actually, I have both a USB 3 (Seagate) and Thunderbolt (WD Duo) and the Seagate is faster.

And I run lightroom.

The advantage of the WD Duo is it run in RAID1, it mirrors so it backs up in real time.

So having in raid 0 would be faster than usb3 but in raid 1 USB 3 be faster

In theory.

I can't test it thought because it would mean I would lose all my data in the WD Duo.

My Seagate uses a 7200 rpm drive, not sure the speed of the WD Duo, although the enclosure allows easy HD swap.
