Thunderbolt in Device Manager

Is it normal for thunderbolt not to appear in device manager unless a thunderbolt device is connected? I have two motherboards with thunderbolt but neither show up in device manager, not even under hidden devices. Unfortunately, I don't have a thunderbolt device I can test with.

It's enabled in bios.

Just read that some people have disabled the bios settings for it to appear in device manager, you could try that.
