The last couple of weeks in my area there has been a proliferation of Thrips of the insect order Thysanoptera commonly known as Thunderflies. A few years ago one of them got under the glass of my Samsung SyncMaster 245B LCD screen and I could see it walking around under the screen. How weird is that? Unfortunately it died in the middle of my screen and I'm not sure how to get it out.

Today I saw another one under the freaking screen as well and I touched the screen to get it off before I realised it was under the screen. When I touched the screen the LCD colours changed but the little thunderfly was unaffected. Must be quite a tough little thing, it just kept walking around.

It seems to have disappeared now, but I'm wondering how the heck can these things get into my screen, and how do I get the remains of the dead one out? It's been there three years now, and it's starting to bug me (pun intended). :D

I have one of these under my screen at work. As it's a work one, I can't be bothered to try to dismantle it. Will just put in a purchase request for some larger monitors! :)

Yes those things are a pain in the backside, i have an old Samsung 913N which must be 5 - 6 years old now along with the thrip that is under the screen. Even after all that time it has not disintegrated/rotted away or whatever and fallen to the bottom out of the visible area like i hoped it might :(

I live in a rural area and get loads in the summer, they are usually about for 3 weeks give or take.
You should never squash one when you see it crawling about, use a desk lamp to draw it out.

As soon as i see one crawling about in the monitor (using an old Belina 22" now) i turn the monitor off and stick a desk lamp near the back of it to draw it out.

One tip i did read on my travels round the net was if one dies in the visible area, use a sucker on the screen and pull the screen out slighty so it falls the bottom. When i say sucker i mean like one of those decorations you see in cars that stick to the windows.
However this didn't work for me ( i also have a dead thrip under the screen in my Sony Bravia too ) but it makes sense i suppose if you think about it.

Apologies if my post seems a bit jumbled, i am a doped up at the moment with painkillers but i hope it helps :)

Last year 3 of them died and got stuck behind the screen of my 24" monitor so I'm very wary of them now.

I bought a new larger very expensive monitor soon afterwards so when we saw a load of them last week when it was hot we closed all the doors and windows and hoovered/squashed them all away. It was hot as hell but at least my house and monitor was Thrip free :)

BTW I tried the sucker trick and while it did work on 1 of the bugs, there's still 2 stuck there that nothing will budge :(

Had millions of these Thrips here, and I've now got a few stuck inside my monitors! :(

As soon as I saw them, I turned the monitor off. I hope they've gone away now.

A Thrip is worse than a dead pixel.

I have one wandering around in one of my screens as we speak :( hate the little buggers. I really cant see any way for it to get in there either. Last time this happend i had a monitor that was about a month old so I called up LG and told them i had a large area of dead pixles and they replaced it under warranty. May do the same again if this one dies in the middle.

I had 2 last year, thankfully they died off screen somewhere as I lured them down and then squished them under the bezel. This time I put selotape around the joining crack on the outside of the monitor, and haven't seen 1 since.

Looks ugly but it's better than having those stupid bugs under your monitor screen.

They really need to start sealing the screens properly. I'm not sure if they get in through the sides, back or where the plastic cover meets the actual screen surface. You could take the screen appart and just plug every joining with tape :P

I have managed to remove them in the past when they are on the backlight or just behind the screen surface. But if they get between the layers which hold the liquid crystal you can't remove them without destroying the screen, because if you seperate them they are ruined.
