Tight budget. Help needed!!

Hi

The choice is an E8400 oveclocked to 3.5ghz on a asus p5e or a q6600 overclocked at 3ghz on a p5k.(not deluxe) Thats my options. What would you guys go for if it was the only choice for futureproofing .Only for games.
I would be using a 8800gts 512.

hi mate im using the e8400 at stock with the 8800 gts 512 & im very happy with it runs all the latest games with ease i personally went for this over the q6600 as it does the job for the minute didnt feel the need for the extra cores it wont use them

Isn't the q6600 cheaper? You may get the e8400 up to 4 or 4.2, but to pay more than what you would for four cores at around 3.6 to 3.8 seems a bit pointless to me. I would have thought that the extra cores would be more beneficial than a couple of hundred mhz.
