tighter timings or higher bus

I was wondering what is quicker, having ram running with tighter timings at a lower bus clock or higher bus and looser timings

I say this because when clocking my Ballistix 5300 ram, the higher bus clock I go the looser the timings become and i'm not sure which is more beneficial.

With a E2160 @ 2.6ghz, 8x333mhz, ratio 1:1, the timings are 5-3-3-12

When I change the ratio to make the bus clock, say 533mhz the timings go up to 5-5-5-21.

Sorry for the noob question, clarification is much appreciated.

Manually set the timings to 5-5-5-15 in the BIOS.

They will do you fine for any overclocking you are doing with that RAM.

You need to press Ctrl F1 or something to get into advanced settings for timings on that board.

Boost vcore until you can bring the CPU up to 400mhz FSB and run RAM at 1:1. Try and get RAM timings down to 4-4-4-12 on that speed. Give them a little (note little) extra juice above their specced voltage if you have to.

I dont think I can get to 400mhz.

I tried pushing past 3ghz with 8x375mhz and ratio of 1:1 and tried upto 1.6v on the vcore but wouldnt post. I tried with the ram in all sorts of ratios and voltages but couldnt go further. Also never went past the recommended 2.2v for the ram.

Highest I could go was 8x365mhz, ratio of 1:1, vcore 1.5v. This was stable in Orthos for 12 hours but would crash when trying to play videos via media player.

Currently settled at 8x333mhz vcore 1.325v still a 1ghz increase but bit dissapointed at not getting 3ghz.
