Hi,

There are quite a few VNC programs.

RealVNC has had a fair few big security holes recently, so I'm a bit wary of using that one.

Which one is actually the best out of the three please?

Thanks,
Craig.

Of the ones I've used I found Ultra VNC the best.

I use it on my lan and it has the ability to transfer files as well which is very useful.

VNC security is very weak anyway, 8 character password max with only 56bit DES, easily brute-able, and the actual video data is unencrypted. TightVNC themselves recommend you don't use it over the internet.

Sounds good, transfer files tool will be very handy

Only being used over the LAN at the moment, it's probably inaccessible over the internet, but I'd rather be safe though :)

In which case, choose any - just don't make any pin holes in your firewall and it wont be accessible from the internet ;)

for me it has to be ultra vnc simply because its the only one I have used.

Has been a life saver for my HTPC as i couldn't be bothered hooking up a keyboard and mouse to it. Plus the fact it works with vista is great.

Plus have used it to resolve issues with my dad's pc over the net and using the web based interface is a fairly cool idea as well. Much better than some more expensive KVM based solutions that I have been using recently.

not bad for a free bit of software.

RealVNC is out of the question. I actually have a program that will let you connect to ANY RealVNC Server under version 4.1.1 without even asking for the password. as people have said above, UltraVNC is the best, only use tightVNC on things like big businesses or school networks where there will be a lot of attacks made

i use tightvnc if i have to (remote desktop suits me better), and the vncviewer.exe from realvnc

-regarding security? -i just do it over hamachi, so its very secure
