I'm after a tile backer board that I can pick up locally and I've noticed that Wickes do STS Boards.

Does anyone have any experience of these?

Also, as a 'belt and braces' I am thinking of tanking over it with something like Mapei AquaDefense.

Any thoughts?

Wickes STS tiles backer board looks like XPS to me, aka the same as marmox, jackoboard etc. Fully waterproof no need to tank, just silicone the joints when installing and then tape using waterproof tape.

Yes I used Wickes XPS boards in my downstairs loo refit.

Very good in my experience. Easy to cut, move around, and pretty cheap on offer at the time.

I have a thread on here where I documented the installation if helpful, basically attached with both tile adhesive and screws having sealed the blocks.

Edit: thread is here https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/tiling-directly-onto-plaster.18947124/

I used Knauf Aquapanel when I did my shower, no need to tank, but you're supposed to use their silicon for all joins, I did use it and it's good but it was really expensive. Maybe you can get away with CT1 or something else, although that's not much cheaper either :P
