Its winter and in need of some new boots for general walking around. They need to be warm, comfortable and dry. For this reason i thought a pair of timberland boots would suit. I had a pair 5 years ago and they were brilliant but pricey.

So being tight with money in my old age i had a look around and came across some sites claiming to source them directly from china (I wont link here in case they are fake). They are near the top of google searches so i wonder whether they are legitimate or whether they are fake? They are charging £60-70 which is basically 50% off the rrp in the shops! That is verging on too good to be true. They seem to have every design possible. I know in America that is the approx price so thats why i ask.

On an alternative note i can source some nice caterpillar boots but not had any experience with the brand. Are they dry, warm and comfortable.

More than happy to listen to any other ideas as long as they look good with a pair of jeans in town.

Can't comment on the legitimacy of those boots, but Cat boots are nice and well made... In a lot of the new Timberland boots they use recylced rubber, which in my experience doesnt last. I had a number of timberland boots, but with the last pair the sole just wore out, so im on some nice Caterpillars atm. Also- while all shoes eventually run out (i've got caterpillar warrens) these are built in a way that i will just be able to take them to a shoe repair shop and repair the sole rather than chucking the whole shoe and start again...

Much as I like the style of the Timberland stuff, the sizes are usally 1/2 a size larger than the UK sizes. Get some Danners dude. Last you forever & can be resoled.

I understand that a pair of boots loved by special forces but these are for working around town and the park whilst its wet and snowy, not kicking al qaeda doors!

Yeah i think the Cat's look nice and will keep my toes dry and last. I read that the recycled rubbish they used was dodgy.

I have some timberland pro boots with a titanium shank in the sole and titanium toe caps. They are totally indestructible.

Are Timberland boots made in China now ?

I've an old pair bought thirteen years ago which were made in the USA and are still going strong, I wonder if the China made versions will do so well....

Panzer boots from Aryan Wear.

Just for genreal knocking about try a pair of Karrimor boots. Our local sports direct has the safety boots in for £18 a pair and i find they are lasting me a hell of a lot longer than more expensive brands getting 10/12 hours a day on my feet at work...
