Gritty Jimmy McGovern prison drama. Watched the first episode tonight. Thought it was brilliant. Dark, shocking and gripping. Sean Bean and Stephen Graham are great. It’s only 3 episodes, so not a slog.

One of those quality shows I’m happy to pay my TV licence for.

BTW, if anyone’s remotely interested, which I doubt, it was filmed in Shrewsbury Prison, a very old prison which shut down in the early 2000’s and is now used for filming, tours and ghost hunts.

Ricky Tomlinson did 2 years in there in the 70’s for fighting on a picket line. Also held Donald Neilson, the Black Panther.

Exactly, especially given the guy has set himself up as a nutter for throwing sugar water in someone's face! It's a tricky line to balance between standing up for yourself and risking other issues. Ultimately as someone who's a first timer too, you hear lots of horror stories which inevitably don't match up with reality and so there's the fear of what you expect to happen rather than the knowledge it probably wouldn't happen.
That water in the face scene is one I’ll remember for a long time. It was done so perfectly, and utterly shocking.

I also felt that whack from the pool balls in a sock!
