So, had a bit of a screw up before christmas, my insurance got cancelled (late payment) and i had to find a new insurer that would take me (most refused).

Finally found one, and they are asking what my car was doing between the dates the new policy started and the old one stopped.

Now, it was sat on my drive, taxed, not used. I was going to submit a tax rebate and SORN it, however needed to insure it so kept looking, which took a bit longer than expected as everyone kept refusing to insure me.

I don't know what to say to them, if i say that am I going to get screwed over? Did I have to declare it and now I'm looking to pay a huge fine?! I didn't even consider it at the time as I was on the phone every day trying to get insurance back on it.

im just wondering if there will be any repercussions? (just my luck ill have a massive fine and points through this or something) im just wondering if that is alright to have done etc?

Fine and points for a car sitting on your drive, taxed but not insured for a short time? Unlikely at best.

Multiply that by my guestimated 1% chance that the insurance company will tell anyone else what you done with the car in that time....

im not going to lie to them. I just wanted to know how much poop I'm potentially in so I can sort stuff. Thanks for the input though.

None, probably, but the only people to tell you are going to be the insurance company. It wont change, so there's little benefit to be asking here really

Can you really be refused insurance because you had a late payment?

I'm guessing it was (possibly not the first?) non payment resulting in cancellation with the insurer then refusing to reinstate.

Whatever the circumstances it may be worth checking with the previous insurer what their stance on the policy being "cancelled" is - i.e have they actually declared that you have been refused / cancelled by them, (if you haven't already) as you may be needlessly making yourself uninsurable

I suspect the issue is that he previous insurance was cancelled due to the late payment.

OP, just tell them the car was of the road whilst it had no insurance, i.e. the truth (assuming it actually was...). Technically it should have been SORN'd but that's a matter for the DVLA to deal with, and it seems they don't tend to be interested in short term transgressions of the stupid SORN rules. They would probably be completely overwhelmed if they had to chase up everyone that had a car taxed but uninsured for a few weeks.

its all cancelled by them, recieved letter with my NCB clarification etc which has been passed on to new insurers. This is also "ok'ed" by the new insurers, they didin't mind as long as it had no fraud issues, as many wouldn't take me after a policy had been cancelled by the insurer. (Hence, the period of time in question, as I called round so many companies)

It was on the drive and not used, I think my folk's would have killed me if I had messed up anymore at the time.

Thanks guys, just made me very unsettled when I got the letter and paniced a bit! I was ready to rebate the tax and sorn, however went through insuring again so kind of a grey area. Didn't want to have to insure then re buy tax after posting it a few days before

They are asking for the reason about the gap as they need to confirm that any NCD you send in is from your last insurer and that you didn't have a policy during the gap which you claimed on & lost NCD and are now trying to hide it. I used to have to ask for confirmation of this when I worked in insurance about 30 times a week.

Thank the lord. :D ive just gotta pop an email over as the letter came late due to snow which is fun! That's settled me a lot though, thanks!
