I have been offered a latest generation Time Capsule 2TB for £250 second hand, problem I have it only has one month of it warranty left with apple.

I have just brought a new 13” MBP this month with a 3 year AppleCare package. I notice that warranty covers addition equipment if brought within two of the Mac purchase.

How does this work, does the item have to be originally purchase for me to be covered?

If it goes wrong can I take to an apple store for repairing, what other information do I need as well?

Is £250 a good price for a Time Capsule 2TB?

I have a mixture of PCs and Mac, should I be looking at another device that would be better

Thanks

Simon

I think you can buy applecare anytime within the existing warranty period of the item, so if theirs still a month left of the original warranty on the time machine, not sure whether you applecare for the mbp would cover it as it isnt a new purchase as such

have a look at this

http://www.avforums.com/forums/apple-computers-os-software/1035380-time-capsule-died-apple-care.html

it looks like the terms and conditions of your applecare bought for the mbp will cover the time capsule

An AirPort Extreme Card, an AirPort Express or AirPort Extreme Base Station, Time Capsule, an Apple-branded DVI to ADC display adapter, Apple RAM modules and MacBook Air SuperDrive are also covered under APP if owned by you and used with the Covered Equipment.

looks like the guy on the avforums got a replacement under the terms of the applecare product bought for the mbp, which makes sense as you can buy applecare anytime during the first year to cover you main purchase, then this seems to cover any additional smaller peripherals you may buy

You can buy Applecare at any stage during the oringnal term of the warranty period. It's wayyyyy better if you know someone (well) in Higer Education who can buyt the Applecare at a drastically reduced price.
