Time Capsule or Airport Extreme?

Hi,

I currently have three WD Mybook Pro drives which are sat next to my iMac, and quite frankly they drive me insane constantly vibrating and stuff, so I want to put them out of the way in the comms cab in the office. Obviously, to do this I need some sort of NAS box, and the Time Capsule or Airport Extreme Base look like a good idea. One is currently a Time Machine drive shared across the network, the others have media on them.

I've heard that the AEBS has speed problems reading/writing to USB attached drives, is this true? And what about the Time Capsule? I currently have 3x500GB drives that are virtually full, so I'd still need to use them even if I got a 1TB Time Capsule.

I'm also thinking about replacing them all with a Drobo at some point to make things a bit simpler (not that it'll make a difference to what I've mentioned above).

Personally, I'd think about the new Drobo.

I think any router with a USB connection for HDD suffer from slow read/write speeds.

If this is going to be accessed constantly and with different media it might not be good enough! and I'm talking about both the AEBS and TC.

The TC is basically the same, can be god awful to write to it as I know from hand.

I made the decision to use it as a Time Machine backup as it was built for, but over wireless! 6 hours later it finished.

Instantly connected it up with ethernet. Improved, but not tremendously!

The TC is great in my opinion for occasion drop/drag/store of media, but not for heavy or large media.

It's a mixed bag to be honest, which makes the Drobo look like a real good idea (if costly).

Problem is I'd still want to put the Drobo in the Comms cab, and would need to buy the Drobo Share or something else to share it across the network... hmm.

The auto shutdown wouldn't bother me - 23Mb/sec is reasonable performance though I suppose... hmm.

Will that allow access to HD content though?

Yea had to change my location from UK to Ireland so I can get the full 5Ghz/MIMO 300Mbits instead of the ****** 150Mbits you get on the UK setting

Illegal but what they going to do, I paid for 300Mbits, im going to USE 300Mbits!

Sadly for me I don't want a HD running 24/7, so for me the option is probably going to be a switchable HD that I can switch on and off.
