So. The crack is i've got a new job and want to reward myself by firstly selling off my current daily runner which is a Suzuki Swift. I'm intending on keeping the MR2 now but i'm in a bit of a conundrum as to what to get.

Starting with the budget, I'm willing to spend around 3k but can stretch to 4k if something special was to pop up. But obviously the £3k mark is where i would be most comfortable.

What are my specific needs? Well it cant be a complete beast seeing as it's going to be my new daily car but age isn't much of a concern to me, i.e the interior plastics quality isn't really a deal breaker for me, I mean the interior in my '85 MR2 is quite nice imo!

Currently then I have my eye on several cars, so a quick list looks like this:

  • 200SX
  • E30/E36 3 series
  • Supra (NA model)
  • Celica GT4
  • Lexus IS200
  • Supercharged Mk1 MR2 (bit of a wildcard)

As you can see from the scatty list im not even sure what i really want :D hence why im picking the fine and knowledgeable heads of you lot. So, over to you! What can you tell me about the cars on the list, or alternatives?

How many miles do you actually do?

Well I lift share with at least one other person, so taking that into account I wont really do more than 200miles in a week, with 150miles being part of my commute, so not exactly stellar is it!

If your keeping the MR2, why not get a cruiser instead of another 'toy'?

Something with a bit of comfort, and good economy.

like R420LA6X2/4MNA said, why not have more than 1 toy :D I admit I still need to do a bunch of insurance quotes but i'm pretty sure i'd get insurance on most cars - 24, 2yrs NCB and a good postcode.

With the 328i, what kinda running costs are we talking about?

Non Turbo Rev 3+ MK2 MR2? Cheap, fairly economical and rather comfortable.

Toyota Soarer? Cheaper and more luxurious than a MKIV Supra. Whilst you'd be knee deep in NA/AUTO supras with bad bodykits, K&N air filters and owners that finish every sentence with the word "innit" for £3,000, you'd be able to get yourself the cream of the soarer crop. You might even be able to swing an ultra rare manual, although personally I wouldn't bother. That being said, if you're worried about the potential running costs of a 328i, a soarer certainly is not for you :D.

NA MK2 MR2 has crossed indeed crossed my mind, however im still unsure whether i need more than 2 seats basically :D

Honda Accord Type R.

Well that's actually my answer for pretty much every "spec me" thread yet i failed to put it on my own list, fail :o:D Do love these things but would like to stick to the RWD theme if i can.
