I'm currently at Uni, but back home in Hertfordshire we currently have 1MB broadband with tesco:rolleyes:

I recieved an e-mail from o2 advertising their broadband deals for existing customers. I called home and found out we have had this deal since 2005 and are paying £20 a month

Obviously there are much better deals around. We're based in Hertfordshire and according to Virgin can recieve upto 50MB via fibre optic. However £20 a month really is the limit. Virgin do some broadband and TV packages which might get us more for our money.

I was just after who to avoid like the plague and any common issues people have with particular ISP's.

We have Virgin 20MB here at Uni in Lincoln and I often get just over 19MB/s so am a tad biased as it's what I already know. I prefer Sky's interface for digital TV to Virgin's but see, to remember hearing bad things about their broadband.

I have no idea how close the nearest exchange is to the 'Watford' area ,of which we live just outside, which will be the main factor affecting speed.

Any help would be great

Read the sticky? Tried searching?

Most of those questions are answered time and time again but I'll summerise for you:

On the whole VM's cable service is pretty good, their ADSL offering is utter crap and to be avoided.

O2's service via LLU is also generally good, but speed will depend on distance from the exchagne etc.

O2's "Access" service is a heap of crap and should be avoided.

It may be worth using the site Samknows and see what providers cover your parents house, if you can get Sky's LLU service as a bundle with their TV / phone offerings it can be quite competitive.

If it's just for your parents to do some browsing / email / mild downloading a VM bundle based around basic phone internet and TV may be good value for them?
