Time for a new ADSL ISP

Hi Guys,

Been with plus.net for the past 2 years, been having 'issues' with my ADSL connection for a while now. I'm a fairly heavy user and managed to get upgraded for free to Pro with an 80GB limit a month, which is fine for me.

Thing is, they really throttle the connection, my profile is set really low (5500kbps), and the connection is pretty unstable (random disconnect usually daily). I initially tried getting ADSL2+ free upgrade, but the profile kept resetting as the BT dynamic speed obv detected instability.

I've been on a rolling contract for a while now since the 12months was up, so i'm free to go to any ISP..

SO QUESTION IS: Change ISP, to maybe Sky or O2/BE LLU service and hope my connection reliability/speed improves or stick with them for a while and try to get it sorted that way?

Here are my router line stats, is this the issue, possible faulty bad copper line at the property, or are plus.net just being dirtbags and providing me with a balls service  ?

Connection Speed 7616 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 28.0 db 13.0 db
Noise Margin 7.0 db 18 db

Definately get your self over to an LLU service if your not already :)

Ive just moved to Be Unlimited from SKY, used the BT site to transfer my phone line back over to BT (didnt cost a penny) submitted my MAC code to BE and should be activated next wednesday :)

Your like attenuation is pretty good but your noise margin is lower than id expect. Can you try connecting your router into the test socket (if you have one) and then posting the stats again?

Test Socket

You could probably expect around 16Mb+ on an attenuation of 28db with a clear line and good home wiring

OK done a little reading up and apparently my Netgear DG834G is known to have some connection stability issues. An upgrade to a v3 Firmware may solve the problems.

I've already bricked a netgear router in the past upgrading the firmware though so im paranoid about doing it again :|
