time for a new monitor?

My monitor flickered a bit 2 days ago then was completely fine (VGA connection). Then last night when I turned the PC on it displayed for approx ten seconds then went black.

I connected my TV via HDMI and it was fine although it lost picture for 30 seconds or so during booting up - but I guess this was due to it configuring the resolution to display?

I have tried a new VGA cable today and it was fine for 5 minutes before getting flickery and loosing display - touching the VGA cable made it work again for 5 mins or so. Could this cable be the issue? or is the chance of two VGA cables failing unlikely? (I am using a DVI -> VGA convertor - can these fail?)

The GPU is a MSI AMD 7950 3gb card.

So with the VGA cable plugged in if you wiggle the monitor end does it flicker ? If so then there is your answer. Its the monitor. You've already proved its not the cable by using a new one. Probably the VGA socket on the monitor or the monitor.

btw beginning you say monitor then you say its a TV ? Which is it ?

Its an acer X223HQ monitor - about 5 years old.

TV is from the front room - wife was a little confused to see it on my desk!
