Time for a new monitor

I’ve done a lot of researching and watching YouTube reviews but I’d like to ask here before I pull the trigger.

Let me first say that I don’t game a lot so I’m not looking for top end super expensive, but for the past 16+ years I’ve used a LG 22” TV as a monitor and I think it’s time for a proper one now.

I’ve been looking at 27” monitors as space is a bit short for anything bigger and I’m pretty much set on this one but obviously wondering if that would be a good choice.

Not sure what your budget or spec requirements are (i.e. what you are looking for).

But it is possible to get a better IPS monitor for around the same price. This MSI IPS is a bit more, but much better colours and such than a VA panel.

If willing to stretch to a higher budget, this particular model while seemingly the same thing at a higher price, has good panel performance compared to the previous cheaper one and seemingly has adaptive Sync.

Alternatively, amongst the best 1440p IPS monitors (and very popular/well-known) are LG's monitors. This model normally goes for a similar price, but apparently OCUK have on Pre-order for an insane deal. Has Freesync Premium and is G-sync compatible too.

Out of all the monitors mentioned so far, if you can get the LG, go for that one. Absolutely best bang for buck if it's possible to get at the price OCUK have it listed for.

Edit: So it turns out LG are banking on the good reputation of their GL850 and confusing naming. The well-known GL850 doesn't seem to be easily available and there are a few cut-backs on the panel listed above. But, given the price, a fairly middling LG 1440p IPS monitor is still a steal. I told someone IRL about it yesterday and they proceeded to order 2 of these. When coming from an old 1080p screen, that LG is still a good upgrade at such prices. Downsides include lower contrast ratio compared to other panels, but not good for using at lower refresh rates (e.g. 60Hz) due to a bit of inverse ghosting/blur. No issues when running at the 165Hz though.

If you still wanted top-tier minus the few drawbacks, there is an equivalent to the old GL850, but will cost around £100 more. Up to folks if they feel £100 extra (or 60% higher price) is worth the small improvements or not.
