A friend sent me his Speccy earlier and it doesn't look good to me :p

I cant for the life of me find out over MSN why his temp is so high, he said it was fine until he moved the PC to another room, He says no fans etc have moved so I'm out of ideas.

He's willing to buy a new tower so I was wondering if OcUK have any pre-built systems that would be similar or an upgrade for as cheap as possible (He's a complete PC noob).

Failing that, Any suggestions as to what's causing the temps ?

I'd fix that one, the spec is OK, totally depends what he's using it for though.

It may be dusty or the CPU cooler has because unseated somehow when it was moved.

Is that a screenshot of the system under load or idling? Also, Has he tried checking it with another temperature app (like Everest ultimate) to ensure that these temperatures are accurate?

If you are having problems with temps and you haven't touched the BIOS then your best option is to have the CPU and chipset coolers cleared of dust and reseated with new, good quality thermal paste.

As alex mentions above - the existing system is actually pretty decent (so long as it is running stably) and changing the CPU to one of the many compatible Phenom II Quad cores would allow him to play pretty much all modern games very well.

Those are idle temps, he's getting random blue screens (he says its a different one every time) whenever he tried to load a game etc.

the HSF may came loose when he moved.

+1, it does often happen when you move your PC and would mean your CPU isn't getting proper cooling and will cause a BSOD to protect itself from heat damage.

Before he buys a new PC, make sure he does reseat the CPU cooler (and the chipset cooler if that is also running very hot) to ensure it is securely fitted and use new, good quality thermal paste.

If he does want a new system, then one of these PCs from OCUK would be great - however we would need to know an approximate budget to give you a good recommendation on what to go for.

Guaranteed it's a build up of dust acting as insulation of over the heatsink vents... happens all to often.

Or as said... it's came loose when he's moved it.
