Hi everyone,

Well our router is about 6 years old now ( i think) and the access point we have is about 3 but although gives a good strength speed is now dilapidating.

Ideally i want 1000mpbs for wired connection, i need at least 4 ( i know i'm going to end up buying a switch here), and a good strong wireless.

Now the problem is, the router at the moment can't really be easily moved, it's not in the centre of the house but at the far end wing, and so the wireless would be considerably less in the front. it's a stone cottage living room where the ps3 is.

Any ideas greatly appreciated!

Furnace

Not many ADSL routers on the market at the moment with gigabit switches built in, generally better off either going for a good router and using an extra gigabit switch for all your LAN connections or using a cable type router and getting an ethernet ADSL modem.

If you're not bothered about costs then I generally like the DrayTek products, they are rock solid and have a lot of features you wont find on other routers.

Netgear are also pretty good for ADSL in my experience (currently running a DG834N on Be*) and the broadcom modems they use are very good at getting the best sync possible out of a line and holding on to it.

Alternatively you could also look at something like a Linksys WRT54GL running some custom firmware and use an external ethernet modem to connect to your ADSL line.

Linksys AM200 ethernet modem + Linksys WRT54GL router + Tomato or DD-WRT firmware for the WRT54GL. :)

Which doesn't do gigabit.

I'd recommend just buying a gigabit switch, no need to fix what isn't broken.
No. I was expanding on the previous post. :) I personally don't see any need to get a Draytek modem router for £150+ when a cheaper ADSL modem router or AM200 + WRT54GL works as well and can be combined with a gigabit switch. :)
