At the moment I have a corsair RM850X I've had this scince 2017 running fine with zero problems.

12600kf
3080 suprim x
One nvme
One ssd
5 noctua 140mm 3000 rpm fans
Dcc watercooling pump.

At the moment I'm looking at two asus psus

1/Rog Thor 1200watt
2/Rog Thor 2 1000watt
The main reason is they both come with sleeved cables and that will save me about £80 odd as I wouldn't need to buy them after and power wise they should last me a while.
Any input wellcome.

If your current psu is running fine I would personally wait until the next generation of psu which meets the new standard come out to change it, Intel's ATX v3.0 PSU Standard Has More Power for GPUs | Tom's Hardware (tomshardware.com)

Thanks for sharing that, good to know. I've had my EVGA 850W G2 for 7 years now and while it's still running perfectly it'll be time for a change soon (even though it has 3 years warranty remaining). Will definitely wait for these newer PSUs.

Future proofing, may keep it for now and buy the white version of my case until the new psus come out

Future proofing? That's pretty much a nonsense concept in PC gaming, you're just wasting money.

Why buy now when your PSU is totally up to the job and works perfectly?

That makes no sense.

Buy another PSU when your current one isn't up to the job or breaks down, and buying a PSU riught now makes no sense as ASMB's post points out...

Have to agree with this.

RM850X is a great PSU and 5 years isn't that long for a decent PSU.

The new ATX 3.0 format is a principle right now that Intel has launched but it won't hit the market for ages.

Agree with the above, a PSU with 5 years left on a ten year warranty is future proof! That's the whole point of buying a decent PSU with a long warranty!?

The Asus Thor units are just rebadged Seasonic's aren't they, for what its worth I recently got the PX 1200 for a good amount less than the Asus.

850w is fine for current gen 3080 I'm not sure its going to cut it for the top end next gen GPUs, particularly as GPUs can spike briefly in their load.

It's like when you talk about getting a new something it tends to break, they are replacing my psu with the RM850i.
Solid upgrade that. Any RMi or AXi or HXi psus are next to top quality.

AX1600i is a mega beast of a PSU.

RMi has built in monitoring via USB so you can see how much load it’s under. Very nice feature if you’re unsure of how much load your PSU is spiking to.

I know this thread was started a month ago, but for any psu upgrades I'd personally wait until the new ATX 3.0 psu's release.

They'll have the new connectors for next gen graphics card's rather than using adapters etc.
