Well pulled the trigger on a couple of small upgrades for my gaming pleasure and all parcels are arriving this morning

Current spec

2600k @4.2ghz
8 gig ram
2tb 7200 hdd
Amd 6970 @ 1080p
And I game via a 12 meg sky broadband connection with pings averaging 45-50

The nice man from Dpd is deliverying

Samsung 840 evo 120gig
Corsair h100 cooler hoping to push my overclock up to 4.8 or thereabouts

And my new sky fibre modem with sky quoting figures of 74/20

Not a massive spend for an upgrade but I'm hoping to see a vast improvement in game

Hopefully a new gpu will be on the cards once amd make their 9xxx announcements

I was about to suggest getting a new card, but I see you've got that covered too.

Have you seen the GPU-z update thread?

Patiently waiting on Douglas my Dpd mento arrive

Almost tempted to go chase. Him down

Haha i know the feeling, just (patiently) waiting for the DPD van to arrive. Sounds like some decent upgrades. As for the SSD, all my systems now boot off them but I was late to the party but in all honesty a well maintained an minimal OS/application drive such as a WD Black or Sammy F3 still feel incredibly fast.

excellent cpu is sitting at a healthy 31c idle haven't loaded it up yet.

ssd seems to be slow though :( 385meg/sec max speed i'm seeing,

was down in the 100s but noob error of sata 2 port rather than 3, swapped over and i'm getting near enough what I should be getting,

any settings I should be looking at to chase that last bit of speed?

um no,

ssd was installed with set to achi then moved back to ide before I plugged my mechanicals in.

have I missed something here?

All seems sorted speeds as I would expect 500meg/sec +

Happy chap now to try some games

Just a quick update folks the few games I've tried show great differences in load times and general performance

Now I'm pushing my overclock a bit more got a stable 4.8ghz now :) woot

All I need now is some spare pennies for a 9xxx card and ill be set for a good few years to come
