I currently have the rig in my sig but have come into £300 and have decided to spend it all on my computer !

rig is used mainly for gaming, 1680x1050 current native res but will be purchasing a 1080 HDTV at xmas time so 1920x1080 will then be used for my games.

So anyway as farcry 2 is looming, a gpu is a must but i was thinking with £300
available, should i sacrifice some graphics power and sub in a new cpu to replace my old (but good - Overclocked to 2.8ghz!) e6300 ??

I was thinking sumthing like...

CPU

GPU

OR i could go all out on a monster graphics card..

GPU

just out of budget but hey

What are peoples thoughts and opinions on this situation ?

any other components I should consider ?

Thanks

cheers for the quick replys, I have had a look at reviews of the 4870 and think I have decided on this card but the 1gb version to help with the higher res.

so that just leaves the cpu...

is the e8400 the best im going to get for £100-£120 ?

Also, with regards to overclocking, at first i will be running it at 3.6ghz (400mhz fsb - same as current)

BUT.. will the e8400 run at 4050mhz (450mhz fsb - providing my motherboard will play ball) on air with a freezer 7 pro ?

the e8x00s are not high powered parts so the ac7 pro will be fine, however, this does depend on the volts needed to reach 4ghz

I think your upgrade is pointless tbh.

You may get a higher benchmark scores but in real applications and games you'll not notice much different if you are playing at 1680x1050, and even if you buy a 1920, the difference will be small.
