Ill keep this short and sweet.....

I have a GTX 260....

got some money to burn......

Should i go 5870 or 5850 overclock the mittle fella then spend the extra on summin else.

Answers on a post card please......

p.s... how much you think ill get for the 260 if i sell it second hand?

I need the same question answered :p.

Tempted to get a 5850 but knowing my luck i will get a pup that will hardly overclock at all and i will be left wishing i had bought a 5870.

Most people will say 5850 but I'm waiting a while longer before I upgrade from my GTX 260. Almost all the auctions for 260's still pass the £100 mark, and sometimes by quite a few quid.

But you see this is what is making me think i should upgrade now. I may be able to get pushing £150 on a certain auction site for my GTX 275 it right now. The longer i leave it the more chance it is going to end up being worthless :p

I was in a similar situation and ended up going for the 5850, because it was a much better fit in my case than the 5870 and drew less power.

Quite possibly. I only commented yesterday in a thread on here that the only temptation for me to upgrade now is just that. In 6 months 260's might sell for £50 which will rubbish any saving I make on buying a new card. What I mean is, even a card I wanted dropped by £90, I've only really saved £30-40 for my 6 month wait.

Yeh that is what i am thinking. I could wait for price drops/ATI refresh/a 5890 e.t.c. But then by the time that happens my 275 is no doubt going to be worth peanuts.

I have a gtx275, just ordered a vapor-x 5870 as it should be quite a big upgrade and also the lower temps/noise makes it a nice card for me.

I would go for an asus 5850 though if you do not wish to spend over £300.

man i really cant decide...... finger is hovering over the buttons but cant click either one...

gonna play some BFBC2 then come back and see if i have made my mind up

Just bought the XFX 5870 @ £314 off of OCUK yesterday. Definately will be a better performer than my 9800GT. A certain site were selling Sapphire 5870 Vapor-X OC's for £330 the other day unfortunately I missed out as they are back up to £360. :(

I would think you'd get around the £100 mark for a 260.

I would go for the 5870 over 5850. I had a 5870 but when watercooling it. It later failed, but my older graphics was a 8800gtx and well it was quite an improvement over it. I got something like 17-19k from it 3dmark06, and 14k with GTX. I run 2560x 1200 have done last 3 years.

A friend bought a 5850 same hardware got same score as gtx8800. I have bought a 5970 because I couldnt get another 5870. I wish I hadn't as I have to watercool it to keep the damn thing cool. They run so hot when you game 24/7 in winter had to have all windows open and fan on me to keep cool.

I wanted to go down this route anyways, but cost is so high, but the 5870 I had was everything I was looking for to beat my 8800gtx after owning a 4870x2 with loud stuttering issues prior, and returning it as I saw no improvement bare in mind this was at launch drivers were not correct..

If I had to do this over again I would have waited till I had sourced another 5870 its a really good performing card and runs a lot cooler. I haven't owned a 5850 only had a friend compare. I know you can clock them, but for my money a 5870 is where it is at.

right i think i have decided on a 5850 ( getting married in July so extra dosh can go towards that )

But now which one?

the ready overclocked Powercolor looks tempting as it comes with MW2 and dirt 2

Anyone got any overclocking experience with this one?
