Hi guys, new to the forum, but been an OCuk customer many times.

i am currently running a core i5 760 oc'd to 4 gig per core.
4gb corsair dominator ddr3
GTX 560ti
Coolermaster HAF-X case

i've had this rig for a few years, but now i am considering upgrades.

in my position, where would you go in terms of upgrades.

opinions?

budget is upto £1500

cheers

If you're just looking for an upgrade and not an entire system then 4gb more ram, an SSD and a badass GPU would do you proud
Couldn't agree more - that 760 @ 4GHz should be fine for virtually everything. Not to mention Mantle and DX12 will likely reduce CPU workload which will only further reduce the importance of a bleeding edge octa cored CPU in the future.

Ram and GPU - plus an SSD if you don't already have one. Relatively affordable and will net you big gains over the 560Ti.

Without changing much else I moved from a GTX470 to a GTX670 and most recently to a 290. On each occasion the boost in performance was very noticeable - gaming @ 1920x1080 and 2560x1080. I can only imagine a 560Ti (similar to my 470) to a 290 will be a pretty huge leap in framerate.

EDIT: In fact the XFX DD 290 is currently up at £289.99 with a 60GB Kingston SSD bundled with it. A little on the small side but fine for a windows install plus a couple of programs. TBH the rest you could just pop on a mechanical.

Then past that you could add another 4gb of ram or just buy an 8gb kit (some of it is very affordable - HERE) so it's matched and sell what you have on. You could probably get the upgrade done on £340 or so.

Incidentally - what PSU do you have in your system at present?

thanks for the in depth responses guys,

my current PSU is an OCZ modxtreme 600...happy to replace as required. using an OCZ vertex 3 for my O/S.... would like a bigger ssd too really as i've almost filled it ( 120 GB)

Great suggestion Lee - since he's already got a SSD that would be an excellent choice.

Monster cooler and a backplate too which is never a bad thing.

One thing to note is that I seem to recall something about bios/hardware related stuff with the powercolor's so might be worth doing a little research before pulling the trigger on it. But assuming all's well with one of those that's a peach of a deal! :)

No problem! :)

If you can afford it then a PSU might be worth considering - especially if that units been running for a few years (it's a 4+ year old design and was mid range at the time).

For a single card any decent branded 750w unit would be fine but if you think you might ever go crossfire/sli then a decent 1kw design would be a good choice.

Quite agree with the others. The i5 760 is still a capable cpu. Wish I kept mine instead of listening to the hype and upgrading. All you really need is a new gpu and a upgrade to 8Gb of ram. SSD wise, 240Gb drives are dirt cheap now and eben 480/512Gb drives can be had cheap.
