I've been gaming a little more in recent months and I've decided my old PC probably needs an upgrade as it has been a while but i'm a little out of the loop and would welcome any advice. My current spec stands at:
AMD Phneom II X4 955BE @ 3.6ghz
Some foxconn mobo of which model I cannot remember but it won't take the new fx chips.
12gb 1600mhz Ram
GTX 560ti 448
128gb samsung SSD
A random collection of HDDs
Win 7
Old trusty antec earthwatts 650W psu (this is getting on a little now 8 or 9 years old now)
Corsair C70 Case
I have around £400 allocated for the upgrade and plan on playing at 1080p but may upgrade to 1440p in the future. The majority of my time spent on my computer is doing office type stuff so I begrudge spending more than what I've allocated. I'd like to be able to play the new fallout and any new total war games that come out in the next couple years. I'm not one of those people that need a constant 60fps nor do i need 50xAA and all those other features that don't seem to do a lot. I'm not averse to overclocking but I can't really be bothered to spend time on it but I'd like new kit as opposed to second hand as i can't be bothered faffing around due to warranty etc.
Thus far I've come up with the little shopping list below. I should still have the intel bracket for the Corsair cooler I'm using now and I hope to use 8gb of this which I have in this machine and i assume is ok for the intel build?
Intel Core i5-4460 3.20GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - £152.98
HIS Radeon R9 380 IceQ X2 2048MB - £149.99
EVGA Supernova GS 550W '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply - £64.99
Asus H81M-K Intel H81 (Socket 1150) DDR3 Micro ATX Motherboard - 39.95
Total - £407.90
My main question being is this the best I can really get for my money or would I be better off spending elsewhere? Also is it worth the extra £30 to buy the 4gb card? Will it make a difference at 1440p or will it run out of grunt before RAM and therefore not worth it?
Would there be anything you would change? Would you keep the old PSU (seems to be running fine) and spend the money elsewhere and also is 550W enough?
Cheers in advance guys.
