Hello All

been thinking its time for an upgrade, but would like some assistance as to which way to go

im open to suggestions, what I know is that my CPU MOBO and Memory are coming up to 5 years old, dont see anything wrong with them but would like to upgrade and future proof myself a little if possible

my build is

Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail

Asrock Z68 Extreme4 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard

Corsair Vengeance Low Profile 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit

Thermalright Silver Arrow CPU Cooler (Socket LGA1366LGA1155LGA1156LGA775AM2AM3) (although this is still in its box as never got round to putting it on

Inno3D
GeForce GTX 780 iChill HerculeZ X3 Ultra 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

2 x OCZ Vertex 3.20 120GB

WD 2TB

Corsair Air 540 ATX Mid Tower Case

700W PSU (unsure of the name but not modular)

Iiyama 24" monitor 144hz

Razer Taipan

Razer Lycosa

Steel Series Siberia 800 Wireless Gaming Headset

Dont really want to replace the case, and have been looking at these ultra wide monitors but not sure they are worth it yet.... i dont think i need to do much to improve my machine, unless im missing something! As i said open to suggestions and havent really got a budget as such but dont want to blow a huge amount if that makes sense

Sorry should add that its mainly gaming, bit of work carried out on the machine with hosting VM's to play around with etc but otherwise games games games!

Appreciate the help

Martin

Agreed, simply overclock your CPU and it will really help !

This video compares CPU performance across 5 generations.

Your CPU is still strong for a year or 2 i'd say.

Why do you want to upgrade? - is your games slow? is your PC a bit laggy? there could be a 1000 reasons you want to uprgrade. Tell us what is on your mind and i'll try to give you some advice.

ok thats interesting to know... no games are not slow, no pc isnt laggy, only issue is mouse doesnt work on boot up, have to unplug and plug in again, just havent brought anything for my PC for ages, and looking at my history the cpu mobo and memory are 5 years old... so thinking might be time to upgrade

You tried a different USB port?

Rule of thumb... If your pc doesnt do what you want/need it to do , then upgrade. If your an enthusiast and its your 'hobby' then upgrading for the sake if it like i do is also acceptable :P

tried every usb port, but have managed to get use to it, everytime on bootup unplug the mouse and plug in again, and it works straight away,

i like to think im an enthusiast, it certainly is a hobby, but always wonder and air on the side of caution with cpu's that video is certainly an eye opener so thank you... i suppose now i have to learn Overclocking...... yikes!

Overclocking is just trial and error, its pretty hard to break anything just google 'overclocking sandybridge 2500' and read the guides in full first then take it step by step.
