Evening all

For the last few years I've had:
i7 4770k CPU overclocked to 4.2Ghz
Gigabyte z87X-OC-CF mobo
16g ddr3 ram
EVGA GTX 780 ti superclock gfx

I've not really been keeping up with cpus etc in the last few years...is this worth upgrading yet? What would be a substantial upgrade (if anything) without going crazy on money...

What card beats the 780 ti?

I use my rig mainly for gaming, photo editing and Cubase (I have separate cards for the sound)

thanks in advance

It depends whether I'm upgrading just the gfx or the mobo/cpu as well. I don't want to get into the realms of spending a grand on a gfx card, but this has 6 months warranty left and has been rma'd once, so getting itchy about it.

CPU is still fine, graphics card upgrade would be your best bet. Going from a 780Ti I would get a GTX 1070. GTX 1080 would be nice but too expensive compared to the 1070 IMO, plus at 1080p it would be pretty overpowered.

hmm, ok. I can live with the price of a 1070. Any suggestions which one is a great card/manufacturer?

Also, looking at the ones on the site...haven't found one yet that will support 2x27" monitors via dvi

At the risk of sounding stupid...is it ok to do that? I always thought you had to match outputs? However, my keeping well up with stuff days are long gone..hence asking here...if that's the case..happy days!

ok if I'm going to be stupid, I may as well go all in! I only game on one monitor, the other has browser and email open etc..like a workspace.... Would it be better to game on the dvi or the hdmi..I only really play WoW in windowed fullscreen mode so that I can flip my mouse between the two monitors.

so, if I went for the 1070 I'm guessing I could play wow in Ultra or Ultra High on one monitor in windowed fullscreen? And final stupid question...would my CPU bottleneck the card?

I would think you could play any game at 1080p ultra high with a 1070 and no your cpu wont bottlenock.

EVGA FTW is a great choice, as you know they have stellar customer service :)

I also play WoW and run everything maxed out with 2xMSAA at 1440p on a 1070 and 6600K at 4.5ghz.

You should also be able to do the same but I still have frame rate drops in to the 30s when in busy area doing the current Legion invasions for example, due to poor optimisation on Blizzards end
