I'm feeling the upgrade itch. I have the following:
4790K @4.5Ghz
Z97 Anniversary
16GB DDR3 2400
couple of SSDs, hard drive, etc. Doesn't matter.
GTX 1080 (keeping)
Recent EVGA 650GQ (keeping)
Antec P100 case (keeping)
So basically I'm looking to upgrade CPU/MOBO/RAM now and then upgrade the GPU maybe when the 12XX series cards come out or if there is something really compelling in the 11XX series cards. I am stuck with Nvidia due to my G-Sync monitor.
I'm holding out for ZEN+ right now to see what improvements it offers. If it's not impressive at all I'll wait for Zen 2 but that'll mean sitting on what I have for another year, and in the meantime my current parts lose some resale value.
I'm not interested in sticking with Intel because I feel that AMD is a better value proposition right now (2 extra cores for the money, similar IPC).
Can't find a whole lot of info on Zen+ and its chipset or if it will even have its own chipset or will they stick with current AM4 motherboards? Seems unlikely to me as they would all require new bios and it would make logistics tricky. I'd guess they'd probably come out with a new chipset.
Any advice for me?
Does anybody know if, if I wait another year, DDR4 prices will become decent again? The RAM I bought for $70 Canadian (16GB DDR3 2400) a year and a half ago costs 3X as much now. Ridiculous.
