Hi All

The time has finally come for me to move on from my 939 setup and enter the world of multi core processing. This is going to be used as a video editing/gaming rig

My current rig is
AMD 3700 san diego 939 oc to 2600
1gig Kingston Hyperx 3200 ram ( 2x 512)
Pioneer 110 DVD Writer (IDE)
Epox nvraid 4 mobo
2x 72gb raptors in raid 0
1 x 300gb seagate drive
Geforce 8800 GTS 320mb
Antec Sonata Case
Hiper 580w PSU
Windows XP

I am thinking of just going for the this Q6600 Bundle But I have a few questions. I only intend to overclock to around 3ghz so is it worth me going for separate items and getting cheaper ram ?

I have been running raid 0 for 3 years now, should I stick with that or just split the drives ? If i decide to stay with Raid ) is there any way of transferring the drives array intact and keeping the information on them or am I just going to have to back it all up and redo it on the new Mobo ?

Will my Hiper 580w cope with the new system ?

I use AVid Xpress as my editing system at the moment it doesn't work with Vista so I have not bothered with the new OS, I was considering getting Vista Premium and Dual booting so that I could play DX10 games, am I going to be missing much not buying Vista Ultimate ?

How much do you think the 3700, Mobo and ram is worth as I am going to sell them to a friend to offset some of the cost.

Any help as always will be gratefully received.

definately buy the bundle seperatly, from mentions on the forum swap the memory for ballistix 5300 afaik its still clocking to 8500 speeds.

would keep the raid array but would back it all up and reload it with the new mobo.

long as you;re psu has coped easily with you're current system it should be fine.

fraid i cant advise on the other questions.

Hi MP,

Thanks for the reply

I am now thinking of going for 2x this memory ballistix 5300 to give me 4gig I know that Windows will only see 3 but for this money it seems to make sense.

Any opinions on that ?

Cheers

far as im aware the 5300 is still overclocking to 8500 speeds, so should be fine, not sure if there is much performance difference between 2x2gb or 4x1gb so unless its a major difference it will do :D

MM Just realised that the MOBO doesnt have IDE is there a converter for my DVD drives or am I just going to have to buy a new one ?

Buy a sata DVD-RW ;)

Also Hiper PSU's are well known for blowing up, maybe yours is an older one before the quality issues but if I was you I would upgrade to a Corsair 520w just incase.

Good luck with the new build, should be great! :)

Mr X Plosion

Thanks for the reply a new drive it is then.

As for the hiper I have heard a few mentions of them going funny but this one seems to be fine I have had it for a couple of years now so think I will take a gamble seeing as my budget is being stretched for a new drive as well :(
