Hey, i thought seeming the VAT increase is upon us, and i was thinking of upgrading my comp anyway thought what better time then now.

So heres my current system:

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8500 @ 3.16GHz
CPU Cooler: Akasa AK-CCX-4002HP Venom CPU Cooler
Memory: 4094MB RAM DDR2 1333MHz Kingston
Hard Drive: 500 GB (old and getting pretty rubbish)
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 470 GTX
Monitor: Samsung Sync Master 24"
Sound Card: intergrated
Speakers/Headphones: 2.1 logitech speakers, logitech headset
Keyboard: Microsoft Sidewinder x6
Mouse: Logitech MX518
Operating System: Windows 7 64bit
Motherboard: P5QL Pro Asus
Computer Case: NZXT Alpha
PSU 650W Crosiar? (not sure will look when home)

So, i was thinking, upgrade the motherboard and processor, but maybe just go for a bundle like this:

Radon Intel Core i5 760 2.80GHz @ 4.00GHz Overclocked Bundle - Asus

Argon Intel Core i3 540 3.06GHz @ 4.00GHz Overclocked Bundle - Gigabyte

Now i know obv the more expensive will be better but im looking for more bang for buck...

budget is around 400 but its flexiable.

Any help would be great as i dont have enough time to research each, im open to buying different parts and assemblying it/oc'ing it myself.

Thank you for your time :)

the i3 540 is not an upgrade compared to an E8500. In fact for gaming the E8500 is faster.

If you are into video editing then increasing core count and hence the i5 760 is better bet. However I won't be the only one to say this: WAIT. SandyBridge (Intel's new release of i processors) is due in early January and will be a better upgrade.

yeh, the comp is for gaming... ahh ok, what is a stable overclock for the E8500, iv heard around 4ghz.

ok il wait for the sandybridge, but about the mother board, hard drive and RAM... which are proitys any suggestions?

You can do hdd now if you like, either just get a new Samsung F3 or if you have the cash go for a SSD for boot drive with an F3 for storage
You'll want to wait til 9th and see what's available before looking at mobo/CPU/ram

hey thanks, yah been looking at the F3, gunna order it tomorrow. thanks, and seems like a good idea to wait till next month/s for the new stuff. thanks for the input :D

I've got my E8400 up to 4.11GHz stable so your 8500 should hit the same I would've thought :)

I would say that the best idea for gaming would be a GPU upgrade, but running a 470GTX you're not exactly lacking in that area are you lol

Stick with the C2D and as said: wait for sandybridge - even if you don't upgrade TO a sandybridge it should at least push prices of i5's and i7's down a bit making them more viable options :)

yah, im gunna oc the processor till sandy bridge and then think about my next step, thanks for the input guys :D

ordering my F3 atm.

thanks again.
