Hi All,

Long time no speak. My son wants an Xmas upgrade.

I think he really wants to change the monitor and game on 1440p.

Currently he's using the RTX2060 on a Ryzen 5.

what options do I have open, I was hoping to possibly throw a 6750 XT in? would the next step be a Ryzen 7 5700?

PS I've been away from the scene a while so really don't know the modern kit. So if you guys can help bounce some options please

he's using an itx motherboard with Rm650 PSU.

think the memory is 24gb I'm not sure on the board, I'll grab the details when I'm home because I really need to know what's best options.

In terms of games, he's playing the standard fps games and nothing really demanding. certainly at the moment on a 1080p monitor.

FYI: don't buy the 5700, it is a pile of misnamed poop. Buy a 5700X, but you'd only get that if you have an old Ryzen 5, e.g. little point replacing a 5600 with a 5700X.

The 5700X3D is a better gaming CPU than the 5700X, but if you're on a budget then needs must.

Yeah, £300 is a good price. TPU's GPU database has it as 63% faster, which isn't huge, but I doubt you want to spend £500 on a Christmas present.
thank you.

what 63% faster then the rtx2600?

What's the model number of the 1440p monitor you plan to buy?
I'm not sure I can link it as it's from a competitor.

that said I think I may have got this wrong freesync is AMD. but it's 165 hz so I'm assuming I'll need to use DP and not hdmi?

So the monitor was purchased, thats fine, we are going to need to move forward on a card soon.

The processor he currently has is the R7 2700X

ive seen the 5700X at £130 recently, wondered if it was worth a punt? im hoping i wont need a BIOS update, i need to find this out still.

Sure, not a bad price. FYI: the 5700X does not come with a cooler (the 5600/5600X do).

If you're using a system with a 2700X it probably will, but you can tell us what CPU-Z's mainboard tab says and we'll tell you.
Would you recommend holding out for the X3d over the 5700, itll be £40 difference.

I have a fairly decent cooler on the CPU at the moment and I expect these to run a little cooler than the 2700X

It is waaaaay better CPU at gaming, better averages/lows and in games which use the cache it'll leave the 5700X in the dust.

Is the 5700X a bad gaming CPU? No. It is much better than the 2700X.
Im not that hard up for the £40 so if its that much better then ill go that way, can you still overclock these CPUs?

It'll almost certainly need an update I'm afraid, but we'll confirm it later.
I do appreciate this help. As a long time forum user, ive seen many platforms come and go but the numbers confuse me at the moment. I nearly purchased a 7600XT earlier thinking it was going to be better than the 6750XT.

Paying for the 16GB with that one. You can pay more for a 4060 Ti 16GB than a 4070 and the 4070 is 29% faster (in TPU's GPU database) :o

The 6750 XT will likely disappear soon though.
Am i as good to buy it now for my son? i kept thinking will the stock be there closer to XMAS and of course the warranty will be ticking down...

I wouldn't like to make any predictions for the graphics card market in 3 months time, 3 months can be like 5 years sometimes :o

That said, stock for RDNA 2 is definitely drying up, so while the £300 6750 XT has been around for quite awhile, the last stock could happen at any time.

If RDNA 4 launches this year, you might even get something better for your money, but yeah, who knows.
I assume we are talking about the XFX one... typically ive not been fan of them for GPU, the last PSU was great but i think Seasonic were the manufacturers.
