I just called Vodafone but the relevant department is closed sadly. Does anyone know if there's a time limit after which I can't port in an old number from an Orange account I'm closing (I have the PAC code from the Orange account)?

I'm about 7 months into a 24 month contract on Voda.

Cheers.

I didn't think there was a time limit for the network that you are transferring your number to. Only a 30 day time limit for the PAC for the number you are transferring across after which you have to request another PAC. So in your case, as long as your PAC from Orange was issued within the last 30 days, there should be no problem with Vodafone accepting it and transferring your number across.

I'm 2 months into a 12 month sim only contract and got my phone number ported from o2 just a few days ago. This is the link I used:

Nice one - thanks very much. It'll save me having to explain myself again tomorrow. Was getting a little worried as the operator initially said porting would not be possible as I'd had the Vodafone contract too long already.

The pac has a life of 30 days, but I'm not sure if Vodaphone had a limit to porting in (Virgin don't, but thats not to helpfull )

The only firm info I could find was this on the Vodaphone support forum

Basically to clear all of this up for you, there once was a policy that meant that all PAC's must be given at the time of purchase however due to the increase in demand and connection being taken through 3rd party retailers you can now do the connection and then call us to initiate the port of your old number with your PAC.
