Hi,

I'm potentially moving over to OS X via a Mac Mini - and want to use the time machine feature to backup all my media.

How does time machine work with 2 similarly sized volumes? For instance if I have a 1.5TB media drive filled with music and videos backing up to a 2TB drive. How does it manage the space with the daily/weekly/monthly snapshots? Does it only take a snapshot when something changes for the incremental backups? Will it automatically just keep the most recent stuff?

As far as I am aware, it will do an initial back up of everything and then in incremental backups, it will look for changes in files, if they have changed then it will be backed up, if not then it won't.

If you only want certain things backed up (to save space) then you can select certain folders and files to be excluded e.g. if you have lots of steam games then you could say to exclude those (on the basis that you can easily download them from the internet).

This. It'll keep all copies until the drive is full, then it'll start deleting older versions of files in order to backup new versions.
