Hi Guys

My boss has an old type MacBook Air and his new 13" MacBook Air arrived this morning, will I be OK to time machine the data back to the new machine even though his old OS X was 10.5 and the new one on Snow Leopard?

Also I purchased a copy of Office 2008 with the 2011 free upgrade, should I install this on the new unit and upgrade then time machine it?

Just looking for the best way to get him up and running as soon as possible really :)

Many thanks

Mart

hmm.

I upgraded from 10.5 to 10.6 using upgrade.

Although there shouldn't be anything stopping you from doing a 10.5 TM 'backup now' before shutting down. On the new machine use the 10.6 disk and do a restore from TM.

I'd do the office install on the new machine.

To hell with the Chaplin movie I think we've got one on the forum....

Edited - By lower-casing the t and m in the words time machine in the OP he had me going for a minute there....:D

It will ask you if you want to continue using the disk or wipe it and start again.

Plug it in and see what happens.

Edit: And yes 10.6 will be able to see the 10.5 TM backup.

Well it all worked peachy accept for TM crashing out with a NULL error and not completing correctly, had to run the TM widget and findout what the offending file/s were and delete them and it all worked a treat :)
