Time machine restore some files missing from desktop

For a friend,
I did a time machine backup to USB HDD
Create a Catalana USB boot USB
Installed an SSD
Did a time machine restore, everything looked good apps working etc

BUT some files have vanished from the desktop..

Any ideas? is it possible they were some form of shortcut time machine did not put back?
