Only just found this on my IMAC for some reason I thought you could only use it with a time capsule :p Awesome bit of kit in my opinion.

Is there any options I should be aware of ? Still can't believe its taking me 5 months to realise you don't need a time capsule to use it

I don't think there's that much to configure, it just does most if its stuff automatically. It is very good :) I've deleted a few library items in the past, gone into Time Machine and restored them.

It will delete the oldest files when it starts running low on space. I guess if you didn't want it using the entire drive you could create a partition on the external drive, if that works.

I've got a macbook and a macmini... can i get the macbook to backup onto the time machine over its wireless? or is it only onto timecapsules and usb hdd?

Search for Time Machine Editor if you want to customise your backup schedule. TM backs up once and hour, ever hour (and that's it), but with TME you can do more.

I'd also advise configuring it to ignore specific folders that can either:

a) Easily be re-downloaded.
b) Temporarily stores non-critical files.

It will cut down your backup times considerably.
