Time taken to scann for viruses too long?

Hi.

I'm using Avast Antivirus, I got it set to scan all archives and thorough scan, and it took around 2-3 hours to scann 223gb of files for viruses, does that length of time sound ok, I was in Windows scanning, never did a boot time scan.

Doesn't sound that unreasonable for a full scan if there are a lot small and archived files.
On the rare occasions I do a full scan, I leave it running while I am work/asleep.

That time is pretty resonable for that amount of files. Avast! does seem to take a bit longer than others on certain machines.

Does it take a lot less time when doing the scan out of windows? I was talking to someone who said it took him around 20 mins to scan well over 250gb .
