M4A89GTD PRO 890GX | Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition @ 3.2GHz
OCZ Reaper 4GB @ 1600MHz | 500Gb Samsung F3
TruePower 750W | Akasa Venom CPU Cooler | Antec 1200

Ive got a problem with the heatsink tho :s it overlaps my ram slots. (pic below) My ram can only fit in the black slot and the left one is touching the heatsink.
Im not pro but im guessing thats not good lol? any idea of what i can do?

Needs abit of tidying up with the cables but will do till the weekend when i have more time to work on it.

Sorry the pics are abit big :D

I would ignore the ram and heatsink issue, its hardly going to affect it in anyway meaningful.

Yh i knew it was gonna be high but every pic ive seen with that heatsink its sat the other way so it wouldnt of been a problem but nvm. If u guys dont think it will be a problem then ill leave it how it is :-).

Any tips on cable management? At the moment everythin is in the back panel in a huge mess lol :-)

Looking good :)

I managed to get away with my Patriot Viper and Thermalright Ultra on the X58 UD5 board in regards the heatsink height oof the memory!

You should see my back panel

Can the heatsink not be rotated? I know that with coolers such as the TRUE on amd boards they can only be mounted one way. Also using reapers here, they are extremey tall but luckily i have very good clearance with a TRUE.

Still got room if i ever need 12gb of ram.

Yh thats the way i thought mine was gonna sit would have been fine then. Tbh if i decide to put more ram in ill probs get the watercooled one. Corsair H50? Im happy with it atm tho.

Its killin me tho cos im at work all night and just wanna go home and use it! :-)

Better the pic being big so we can see what's what.

It does look a lil snug but i don't think you need to worry unless you wanted to add more RAM. Seeing as the heatsink is screwed to a backing plate it may well be possible to rotate it 90 degrees. Then again it's hard to see if the mounted fan is going to be an issue over the RAM or if it butts against the exhaust fan.

If the mobo has an IGP it may be best to wait a few weeks instead for the gfx card. The new ati cards are due this quarter (oct rumoured), you'll be pig sick if you buy next week and then see the same card going for less a week or two later......just a thought.

the venom is a beast and looks sick and i wanna get it. but the issue with the overlap on the ram slots is wots putting me off it :(

nice build m8 looks quality

I wouldnt of thought it'll be too bad with any other RAM as those OCZ Reapers are ment to be the tallest ram. But dont quote me on tht

Ah cheers for the advice ill probs wait till the new cards come out :-)

As for the overhang. It sits above the actual ram by a gd few mm but cos of the heatsink on them it gets in the way :p so i think most other rams would fit fine with no problems. Will take a better pic and show it when i finish work in the mornin.

Cheers guys glad you like it :-)

Hey guys. After finaly gettin round to puttin win7 on my pc im having a few problems. Well not really problems more annoyances.

Firstly when i turn the pc on it comes to the screen to choose bios and all that then it goes to a screen and says it cant find any drives then after a few seconds goes back to the first screen then loads windows. Like i said its not really a problem but its quite annoying cos it pretty much doubles my boot time.

Secondly i have 4Gb ram but win7 says i can only use 3.75 of it? Is that cos im using onboard graphics? Cant think of any other reason. Im using 64bit windows.

Cheers

To get rid of the no drive message, youll need to pop into bios and disable the marvell ide controller, this is only required if your using older ide type hdd's, should be in the bios under advanced settings menu. As your using sata drive/s you can safely disable this.

Probably down to your onboard graphics card. Should revert to 4gb when you install a separate gpu and disable the onboard graphics.

The onboard graphics utilises the RAM for memory, and so will be taking that 256mb of RAM for itself so the system no longer displays it as system memory.

Yh i thought as much. I knew it used the system memory to work didnt know i it would stop the rest of the system using it tho. Is there a way to increase the performance of onboard gfx at all?
Im stuck with it till i can afford a 5870 in a few weeks time and it kinda sucks lol.

Just got home from work and went in bios but cant find this option anywhere, or even anything with ide in the name. Could it be named as something else?

Have a quick look at the MB Manual :)

Pages 3-11 to 3-13... these settings need to be set correctly and can take a bit of tweaking and trial and error to get right.

Note the recommended settings for SATA Port 5 & 6 :)
