Ok I am into Photography using Aperture 3 and going to do a bit of video too with maybe final cut express one day but iMovie will do for now since it comes with the system.

It all hobby and I am wanting a iMac but will I see a different in speed between the

27" 3.06 and the 27" i5 quad core 2.66?? I cant really afford the i7 but I dont want to waste money I just want a system that not going let me down and be pretty quick

What you reckon?
 
the difference of i5 vs i7 wont be anywhere near as the difference between quadcore and dualcore CPU.

With video reendering, photo work, the task will literally be half the time on the quadcore.

Whereas the i7 upgrade will just decrease it by a small fraction rather than half.

If you have to have the best, get the i7, if you're not bothered by your photo processing taking 10 seconds less on a 5 minute run, (as an example) get the I5.

But the difference with the i5 over the 3.06 is vast - because imovie is multithreaded , it will process in almost half the time as it has 4 cores to do the work instead of 2.

Been looking at the other thread hmmm now tempted to wait but I cant really wait for too long.. How long you guys think it be till new one release?
 
another 2 to 3 months. (at a guess - Cant see it being August i.e. 1 month as everybody is on holiday) More likely to be come september when everybody is back from their summer breaks.
