Time to finally start from scratch?

I've had my current PC shell for years, upgrading each component seperately when the time seemed right. Started off as an old Athlon XP machine, but each component has been swapped out of the case several times over now, and it's been through 3 water cooling setups, as well as a few air.

The current system is as below:

Lian Li PC-6085A with Aquarium side panel (+ custom mods)
Asus A8N-SLI (S939)
Opteron 180 @ 2600Mhz
2 x Seagate Barracuda 350GB in RAID 0
2GB (2*1GB) Corsair TwinX PC3500LL
ATI Radeon X1950Pro 256MB

Now I think it's starting to get to the point where I might as well start from scratch and build a new computer. The only possibility this current system has is to get a couple of NVidia cards for SLI, but if I'm spending that kind of money, I believe I might as well go the whole hog.

Is it worthwhile upgrading the whole system now (would probably spend ~£1200 on a new system), or is it worthwhile holding on a little longer for new developments, such as Wolfdale and the new NVidia 9x cards?

How much of a performance gain am I likely to see going to a new Core 2 Quad setup?

Cheers mate. Appreciate the reply.

I've always had AMD systems but having just got a laptop with a C2D processor, I'm extremely impressed with the platform.
